After creating your competition, it's time to start building rounds. To do this, simply click "Add Round" and follow the prompts.
Please Note: This information is only for pool rounds. Information surrounding knockout rounds can be found here.
After adding a round, set the round type to "Pool" and add a title for your round. The date field is optional.
You are also given the option to view the advanced options. From here, you can add detailed notes about the round if necessary.
Creating a Pool
After creating your pool round, it's time to create the pool itself. Under your recently created pool round, you'll see an "Add Pool" button. Click this to create your first pool.
Title
This is the title of the pool itself eg "Pool 1" or "Group A".
Pool Input Matches
Here is where you select which teams will compete in the pool. If there are preceding rounds, you can opt to have the winner of the previous matches progress directly into this pool. To do this, click the "Pool Input Matches" dropdown and select the appropriate match.
Alternatively, if this pool takes place in the first round of a competition, you will need to select "Include Applications in Match Candidates for Pool Teams". This allows you to manually select which schools will be in the pool from a dropdown list of all available candidates.
After adding pool members, you will need to name them appropriately. You are free to name the teams however you like, though we find it useful to name them with alphabetic characters eg "Team A, Team B, Team C" etc.
Progressors from Pool
This is where you decide how many teams will progress from the pool. Simply click the "Add" button, and add as many progressors as you like.
A progressor name placeholder will be created using the round and pool names, though you are free to name them how you like.
Please Note: You are not deciding the winner of the pool here, you are simply just selecting how many teams you'd like to progress through to the next round (eg if you would like the two teams with the highest points to progress, you add two progressors).
Event
Here you have the option to link the competition with an event.
Auto map matches into rounds
Checking this box will automatically generate the matches in the pool, ensuring that each team plays each other once.
Results
Now you've created the pools, you can enter results for each match. To do this, ensure that the competition builder is in "Results Mode", then select "View competition & results".
This will open the "Pool Round Builder" screen, where you can view each match up, enter the results, view the points table and, if you have linked the competition with a gala day, view the location and timeslot of each match.
Please Note: Competitions have to be manually linked with gala day's. You can find out more about how to do that here.
Entering Results
To enter results, click on the stopwatch icon next to the relevant match. If you can not see the stopwatch icon, please double check you are in "Results Mode".
There are three key fields on the results page: "Score", "Points" and "Winner".
Score
This is where you enter the score for each team.
Points
This is where you delegate how many points a team is given for the match result. Not to be confused with the score field, the points field is related to the competition itself and it's rules/regulations surrounding points and match scoring.
For example in soccer, a team is often awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw or 0 points for a loss.
If Team A beats Team B (1 - 0), the score for Team A would be 1, and the points would be 3.
Winner
This is where you select the winner of a match. An option for a draw is also available.
Please Note: If a team has forfeited a match, check the "Match entry forfeit" box. In the case of a forfeit, you will still need to allocate points appropriately and select a winner.
Progressors
To progress a team (or teams) past the pool round, go back into "Edit Mode", click "View competition and results", then select "Settings".
From the "Pool Settings" page, scroll to the "Progressors" section and select the teams who will progress onto the subsequent rounds.
If you're unsure which team needs to progress, you can refer to the points table, which can be found by switching back to "Results Mode", clicking "View competition and results", and selecting "Points Table". This will give you an overview of the total points for each team and the overall pool rankings.
